Climate Cafe: a compassionate sharing circle

This Climate Cafe provided a sharing circle for people who are feeling distress about the climate crisis and its global, local and personal impact. It was an opportunity to share thoughts and feelings in a small circle of compassionate listeners, in a safe, non-judgmental, advice and agenda free space to speak about feelings, fears, or uncertainties.

Many people feel disturbed, overwhelmed, and/or anxious about what is currently happening with climate change, as well as what the future holds. Sharing these concerns and feelings with others can help manage those feelings, and possibly be a foundation for taking action. Climate Cafe believes that compassion is a life-affirming, reparative response to the situation. Together, we build our capacity for compassionate listening, to the words as well as to the substance beneath the words

The sharing circle emphasized listening as much as speaking, with a compassionate spirit. With guided visualizations to activate the sharing, participants broke out into small groups of four and then were offered the opportunity to share with the larger group at the end.

This event was moderated by Greg Smith.
