PEOPLE CONNECTING TO PEOPLE, A COMMUNITY OF SUPPORT
Many people feel disturbed, overwhelmed, or even anxious about current manifestations of Climate Change, as well as what the future holds. Sharing these concerns and emotions with others can be a powerful way to help manage those feelings, and possibly open pathways for taking action. Building our capacity for compassionate listening is a life-affirming, reparative response to the emotional challenges climate change presents.
West Marin Climate Action’s Climate Cafe offered a sharing circle for people who are feeling distress about the climate crisis and its impact at the global, local, or personal level. Participants shared thoughts and feelings in a small, non-judgmental circle of compassionate listeners. This sharing circle emphasizes the listening part as much as the speaking part, with a compassionate spirit.
This gathering was facilitated by Greg Smith, WMCA Steering Committee member. The Zoom gathering included:
-A guided visualization to activate compassion.
-Breakout into small groups for personal sharing
-Larger group sharing, and
-A guided visualization closing.
